Does Anyone Have Any Scientific Evidence Supporting Alternative Medicine?

Please, do no tell me anecdotes, personal tales, or anything like that. The last thing I want to hear is about how alternative medicine worked for you. I reckon that is wonderful but it hardly serves as proof. I want to see some sort of hard evidence. The ideal would be a randomized, double blind, placebo controlled trial. Any trial or study would suffice. I am looking for some websites or something to read to supply me with evidence. Thanks for your help!

You can look at the NCCAM division of the NIH (http://nccam.nih.gov/), which funds research on alternative medicine in the United States. They’ve run multiple double blind placebo controlled on some of the more well loved alternative methods.
Though in the 18 years they have been running, and despite near a billion dollars spent, they have yet to come up with one useful treatment, or come up with evidence supporting one.
EDIT: I reckon the two sites below speak to a lot of the problems in trying to do any research in this area, and are a testament to the veracity of altmed in general.
We have conspiracy theories, outright hallucinations, beliefs that Russia and China have armies hiding in bunkers under British Columbia.
And shameless fellation of Ron Paul, who’s thoughts on healthcare come from an organization(The American Academy of Physicians and Surgeons) that is involved in HIV denialism, removal of laws protecting patients from exploitation and scams, and outright racism.

I dearly appreciate the AMA(american medical association.)
Having said that……Most of the rest of the world uses homeopathy.
For one single reason. It works very well. Been around since the Dawn of Shamanism.
For goodness sakes even the chinese still use it as well as acupressure and acupuncture.
I believe the AMA is a small too haughty As well as a very excellent source
of procedural medicines and therapy. so …..
The AMA is excellent but there is goodness and a lot of it in alternative medicine.

Alternative medicine is an odd name as it positioned against drugs and surgery as mainstream. There are many many modes of healing that is done all over the world.
There are clinicial trials on different supplements and homeopathy that would be considered “alternative”. You can research it at “PubMed” where clinical trials are published. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/

What kind of medicine do you reckon was used 100, 200, 300, 500, 1000,… years ago before we got all the medicines and technologies that we have now?

  8. Danu says:

There really is no such thing as alternative medicine. There is medicine which works and there is medicine which does not work. Virtually all “alternative medicine” remedies are worthless – except to those who sell them to suckers and fools for a tidy profit!
